Owlstone Nanotech, Inc., a pioneer in the commercialisation of nanotechnology-based chemical detection products, today announced the general availability of the Owlstone Tourist™. The Owlstone Tourist is the first widely available production model chemical detection device from Owlstone, and is based on the company’s revolutionary micro-machined gas sensor. Owlstone Nanotech is a subsidiary of Advance Nanotech, Inc.
“Owlstone’s sensing technology represents a major step forward in portable analytical instrumentation,” said Marlene Bourne, MEMS analyst and founder of Bourne Research. “Their ability to cost-effectively detect a range of volatile organic compounds, which is difficult to do with existing technology and is what the market has been looking for, takes chemical sensing to a whole new level.”
The Owlstone Tourist is the first production model sensor offered by Owlstone, and reflects the company’s rapid progress in developing leading-edge micro- and nano-fabrication techniques. The Tourist represents chemical detection technology that is significantly smaller and less expensive than existing technology. In addition to offering its own products, Owlstone Nanotech partners with market leaders to integrate its technology into a wide range of commercial applications to allow the efficient and accurate detection of various chemical agents including contaminants, chemical warfare agents and potentially harmful gases.
“Owlstone is clearing the way for a new generation of threat detection solutions,” said Bret Bader, CEO of Owlstone Nanotech. “This is truly a significant milestone for Owlstone, specifically for the founders and our product development team in the UK.”
Magnus Gittins, CEO of Advance Nanotech, commented, “My congratulations to the Owlstone team on achieving this goal. As we have stated over the last few months, we are extremely pleased with the progress at Owlstone. The milestones met in product development, the attraction of strong senior management, and now the launch of this product are demonstrable signs of the interest surrounding their core technology. The team at Advance Nanotech is pleased to have worked with the company to achieve these goals.”
