A nanotechnology-oriented forum bringing together academia, industry and budding entrepreneurs, will be held April 2–4, 2007, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Nano Nexus 2007 is designed to foster innovation and increase collaboration between universities, government, industry and the investment community—all critical players for commercialising new nanotechnology. It will also serve as a component of the Innovation Valley Nano Initiative, an effort to cultivate nanotechnology business in the region.

Nano-Proprietary, Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Applied Nanotech, Inc. (“ANI”), has received a new Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract from the Homeland Security Advanced Research Project Agency (HSARPA) in the amount of approximately $125,000. The contract is for the development of a carbon nanotube (“CNT”) based ioniser source to replace nuclear radioactive sources in commercial applications. The contract is expected to take approximately six months to complete.

Nano-Proprietary, Inc. today announced that its subsidiary, Applied Nanotech, Inc., has entered into a research and development partnership agreement with a leading industrial chemical products company in Japan to develop technical inks. Technical inks are inks that can be deposited using additive processes such as printing, in particular inkjet and screen printing. The target markets for technical inks are printed circuit boards, flexible electronics and displays, communications instrumentation and RFIDs.

Arrowhead Research announced today that NanoPolaris, its wholly-owned subsidiary, acquired substantially all the assets of Unidym, a Los Angeles company that develops carbon nanotube-based electronics. Dr George Gruener, Unidym founder and distinguished UCLA professor, will be the Chief Technical Officer of the combined company. The first product, transparent and conductive nanotube networks, could enable the next generation of flat panel displays, touch screens, light-emitting diodes and solar cells.
